About the AWS Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) Certification

The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) is Amazon Web Services' entry-level certification. It validates your foundational understanding of the AWS Cloud, including core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. AWS updated the exam to CLF-C02 in September 2023, refreshing the content to reflect current cloud best practices and services.

This exam is designed for anyone starting their cloud journey — whether you're in a technical role, a business or management position, or transitioning into cloud computing. No prior AWS experience is required, making it the ideal first step for sales, marketing, finance, and project management professionals who work with AWS teams.

Written in the style of the real exam. Answer each one, then open the answer to check.

  1. Question 1 · Cloud Technology and Services

A company must keep scanned tax records for 7 years to meet a legal requirement. The records will be read once or twice a year at most, and retrieving them within 12 hours of a request is acceptable. Which storage option will meet these requirements at the LOWEST cost?

    • A.Amazon S3 Standard-Infrequent Access (S3 Standard-IA)
    • B.Amazon S3 Glacier Flexible Retrieval
    • C.Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive
    • D.Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) Cold HDD (sc1)
    Show answer

    Answer: C

Option C is correct because S3 Glacier Deep Archive is the lowest-cost Amazon S3 storage class, built for long-term retention of data that is accessed once or twice a year, and its standard retrieval completes within 12 hours. Option A stores the data at a higher price because it is designed for data that needs millisecond access. Option B also archives data, but it costs more per GB than Deep Archive, and its faster retrievals are not needed here. Option D is block storage that must be attached to an EC2 instance, so it is neither an archive service nor the cheapest choice.

  2. Question 2 · Security and Compliance

A company stores thousands of customer files in Amazon S3 buckets. The compliance team needs to automatically find which objects contain personally identifiable information (PII), such as names, addresses, and credit card numbers. Which AWS service meets this requirement?

    • A.Amazon Inspector
    • B.Amazon Macie
    • C.AWS Artifact
    • D.AWS Shield
    Show answer

    Answer: B

Option B is correct because Amazon Macie uses machine learning and pattern matching to discover sensitive data, including PII and financial data, in Amazon S3 and reports what it finds. Option A scans workloads such as EC2 instances, container images, and Lambda functions for software vulnerabilities, not S3 objects for PII. Option C gives on-demand access to AWS compliance reports and agreements, so it does not inspect your data. Option D protects applications against DDoS attacks.

  3. Question 3 · Cloud Concepts

A company is using the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF) to plan its move to AWS. The company's architects and engineers want guidance on building a scalable hybrid cloud platform and modernizing existing workloads. The chief information security officer (CISO) wants guidance on keeping data and workloads confidential and available. Which AWS CAF perspectives should these stakeholders use? (Select TWO.)

    • A.Business perspective
    • B.Platform perspective
    • C.People perspective
    • D.Security perspective
    • E.Governance perspective
    Show answer

    Answers: B, D

Options B and D are correct. The Platform perspective helps build an enterprise-grade, scalable, hybrid cloud platform and modernize workloads, and its stakeholders include architects and engineers. The Security perspective helps achieve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data and cloud workloads, and the CISO is one of its stakeholders. Option A focuses on making cloud investments drive business outcomes, Option C on culture, organizational structure, and workforce, and Option E on orchestrating cloud initiatives while managing transformation risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on this practice exam, and how long do I get?

This practice exam has 65 questions, and exam mode gives you 90 minutes to answer them. The real CLF-C02 exam has 65 questions (50 scored and 15 unscored) in 90 minutes, so a full attempt here is the same length. Practice mode has no timer.

Is this practice exam like the real CLF-C02 exam?

In format, yes: questions are multiple choice (one correct answer) or multiple response (two or more), spread across the 4 exam domains in close to the weights the official exam guide gives them. Scoring differs: AWS reports a scaled score from 100 to 1,000 and you pass at 700, while this practice exam shows the raw percentage you got right. For how hard the exam is, whether it is worth it and how long to study, read our AWS Cloud Practitioner certification guide.

What score should I aim for before booking the real exam?

Aim for 80% or more, consistently, on full-length attempts in exam mode, not just once. That leaves a margin over the 700 out of 1,000 you need on the real CLF-C02 exam, whose questions will all be new to you. Repeat attempts here show the same questions, so judge yourself by first attempts and by whether you can explain each answer. No practice score guarantees a pass.

Do I need to sign up or pay?

No. The CLF-C02 practice exam is free and needs no account. Your progress and score history are saved in this browser, so they stay on this device and are lost if you clear your browser data.

How should I use this practice exam?

Start in practice mode, which tells you after each question whether you were right and explains the answer. When you score well there, switch to exam mode: 90 minutes and no feedback until the end, like test day. Your results break the score down by domain, so you can see which domains to study before your next attempt.
