AI literacy, use-case prioritisation, build-buy-partner, KPIs and ROI, AI pricing models, responsible AI, governance, readiness and scaling from pilot to enterprise for the AIB-C01 beta exam
The AWS Certified AI Business Strategist (AIB-C01) is the first exam in AWS's new Business certification category. It validates a business professional's ability to translate AI capabilities into business outcomes, establish responsible AI practices, evaluate opportunities to optimize AI solutions and drive AI adoption at scale. The exam is in beta: registration opened September 1, 2026 and beta delivery began September 29, 2026. Earn it by February 15, 2027 to get an additional Early Adopter digital badge.
This exam is for business professionals who evaluate, champion or scale AI initiatives but do not build AI solutions themselves: product and program managers, sales and business development professionals, line-of-business leaders, consultants, business analysts and marketers. No coding, AWS implementation experience or other AWS certification is required.
The AIB-C01 beta exam has 85 questions in multiple-choice and multiple-response format, and you have 170 minutes to complete it. The exam guide lists 130 minutes, which is most likely the standard exam length. Results are pass/fail on a scaled score of 100–1,000, and the passing score is 700. The beta costs $50 USD (standard price $100 USD) and is available at Pearson testing centers or online proctored, in English and Japanese.
Recommended experience: 6 months of experience working with or alongside teams adopting AI. Basic familiarity with AI concepts and a business-level awareness of what AWS AI services offer; hands-on experience is not required.
The AI Practitioner validates foundational knowledge of AI, ML and generative AI concepts and AWS AI services. The AI Business Strategist validates business judgment: which AI investments to pursue, how to build the business case, how to govern risk and how to move from pilot to production. AWS says AIB-C01 does not assess knowledge of AWS AI services. Neither is a prerequisite for the other.
Only at a strategic, business level: Amazon Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker AI, Amazon Quick, the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (AWS CAF), the AWS shared responsibility model, AI pricing structures (consumption-, instance- and seat-based), AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Pricing Calculator and AWS Marketplace. You are not expected to configure, deploy or administer any AWS service.
Yes, as of October 2026. The beta has 85 questions, lasts 170 minutes and costs $50 USD instead of the standard $100 USD. You can take the beta only once, and results arrive within 5 business days. AWS has not published a beta end date or a general availability date. Passing the beta earns the full certification, valid for three years.
