How to read these numbers
AWS does not publish salary data, so the figures below are typical US market ranges synthesized from public salary surveys, job postings, and self-reported compensation from the AWS community. They reflect base salary for roles that commonly require or prefer each certification — not a guaranteed raise for passing an exam.
Two things matter far more than any single number here. First, location and experience move these ranges by 30% or more — a Solutions Architect in a major tech hub and one in a lower cost-of-living market can both be "typical" while earning very different amounts. Second, a certification correlates with a pay band because it maps to a role and a level of skill, not because the badge itself creates the salary. Treat these as a guide to which roles a cert opens, not a promise.
AWS certification salary ranges (2026)
Ranked from highest to lowest typical pay. The "senior / top roles" column shows where experienced professionals in that specialization commonly land.

| 1 | Generative AI Developer Pro (AIP-C01) | Professional | $160K–$220K | $250K+ |
| 2 | Security Specialty (SCS-C03) | Specialty | $150K–$220K | $220K+ |
| 3 | Solutions Architect Pro (SAP-C02) | Professional | $150K–$220K | $220K+ |
| 4 | Advanced Networking (ANS-C01) | Specialty | $150K–$200K | $220K+ |
| 5 | DevOps Engineer Pro (DOP-C02) | Professional | $140K–$200K | $200K+ |
| 6 | Machine Learning Engineer (MLA-C01) | Associate | $140K–$200K | $250K+ |

The highest-paying AWS certifications
The top of the table is dominated by Professional and Specialty exams, and that is no accident — they validate depth in a narrow, high-stakes area that employers struggle to hire for.
The Generative AI Developer Professional (AIP-C01) is the newest entry and already commands the highest typical range, reflecting how hard it is to find engineers who can ship production generative AI systems. Security Specialty (SCS-C03) pays at the top because security failures are expensive and, in regulated industries like finance and healthcare, the certification is often a hard requirement. Solutions Architect Professional (SAP-C02) sits alongside them as the benchmark many organizations use to promote engineers into senior and principal architecture roles.
Machine Learning Engineer (MLA-C01) is the outlier — an Associate-level exam that pays like a Professional one, because ML skills are scarce and demand far outstrips supply.
Best salary-to-effort ratio
The highest salary is not always the best goal. If you are optimizing for return on your study time, the Solutions Architect Associate (SAA-C03) is the standout. It is the single most-requested AWS certification in job postings, opens $120K–$170K architecture and cloud engineering roles, and takes far less preparation than a Professional exam. For most people it is the best first serious certification after a foundational one.
Developer Associate (DVA-C02) and Data Engineer (DEA-C01) are close behind for anyone whose day job already leans in those directions — the certification validates skills you are using anyway, which is exactly the combination hiring managers pay for.
Foundational certs (Cloud Practitioner and AI Practitioner) rarely move salary on their own. Their value is as door-openers and stepping stones: they get you into cloud conversations and set up the Associate exam that actually shifts your pay band.
Do AWS certifications actually raise your salary?
Yes, but indirectly. The clearest pattern in every salary survey is that certified professionals earn more than uncertified ones in the same field — but that gap reflects the roles and experience levels certifications unlock, not a mechanical bonus for the badge.
A certification helps your salary most in three situations: when you are moving into cloud and need proof of baseline skills, when you are targeting a specific higher-paying role and the cert is listed as required or preferred, and when you are pairing it with hands-on experience that lets you actually do the job. A certification with no experience behind it rarely commands the top of these ranges. A certification that confirms skills you can demonstrate does.
How to maximize the salary impact of your certification
Stack strategically. The proven path is Foundational, then Associate, then Professional or Specialty, and each step maps to a real jump in the ranges above. Do not skip straight to a Professional exam hoping for the top number — without the underlying experience it validates, you will struggle to pass and to land the role.
Pair every certification with a portfolio. A Solutions Architect Associate plus a couple of real projects you can talk through in an interview is worth far more than the certificate alone. Finally, target the certification to the role you actually want: if you want a security role, the Security Specialty pays; if you want to build generative AI products, the Generative AI Developer Professional is where the market is heading fastest.
The cheapest way to reach any of these bands is to pass on the first try. Our free practice exams for every certification let you gauge your readiness before you spend $100 to $300 on the real thing.
